corset & bougainvillea

I got the first Black Barbie for Christmas when I was 5.

More than 50 years after Brown v. Board of Education, 40 years after "Black is Beautiful," a young woman made this film and conducted the same doll experiment that led to the overturning of de jure school segregation. The results are depressing.

I saw this film when it first appeared on Youtube a couple of years ago, but it's being brought to you now thanks to a, uh, disagreement elsewhere on LJ about whether or not Black parents who exclusively buy Black dolls for their children are "racist." (This nitwit's ignorance must be physically painful for her, because it's giving me a headache.)
