Since the world didn't end...

I guess I can post about Austin.

We got in late Thursday, and I didn't kill anyone at the United desk at SFO, which is somewhat surprising because bitches be trippin', yo. Jason's dad drove us to the airport, and we should have had plenty of time to check our bags and Java and have a pre-flight drink, but instead there was a lot of standing around getting totally contradictory information from various airline employees until I finally blew up at someone. On the plus side, we ran into Bamuthi and then Kenji and Minal, the flight was smooth, and our temporary apartment is awesome if not really near anything but my job.

Java the Mutt still hates flying. On the flight, she drooled her crate wet and chewed at it, but it held her. She then had diarrhea for 24 hours, which sucked for everyone. I took her to a vet on Saturday, and he seemed pretty convinced it was due to anxiety and nothing more serious, so we're medicating as needed and keeping an eye on her. She definitely enjoyed yesterday's outing to a park in North Austin where she got to splash around in a creek and contemplate swimming (she opted not to, but I think the heat will eventually get her into the water), and then we headed to the Spider House for tasty adult beverages to celebrate the world not ending, and Java napped under my seat.

Friday night, we met up with my friend Forest at East Side Show Room for dinner and drinks (GAWD, it's delicious). Saturday, we went to see Bridesmaids (which was pretty hilarious) at the Alamo Drafthouse, and tonight we're heading to The Grand to meet a friend of [info]sparklydevil's.

Oh, and today was my first day of work. So far, so... lots of stuff. Good stuff, just new, and a lot of it. And on Sunday, I leave for two weeks of training in Edmonton, which kinda blows since I'd much rather look for a permanent place here in Austin than hang out in a pretty but boring city in Canada. I'd basically have until this weekend and then one week after I return to find somewhere to live. But--looks like the mothership's going to extend our temp housing to give us more time when I get back, so that's something.

More soon--we should have reliable internet here at home tomorrow. In the meantime, we're sharing a shitty wireless internet card.
