BOOYAH! and BOO! [Wednesday, Nov. 5th, 2008|06:20 pm]
The richest girl in town.
Motherfuckers just won't let me enjoy this BOOYAH! moment.

Between the passing of Prop 8, the dumb shit people are saying about the passing of Prop 8 (like the mortgage crisis, it's black people's fault and had Obama not been on the ballot, we wouldn't have voted and gay [white?] people would still be able to get married), and the absolutely insulting, ridiculous, underhanded treatment I'm in the midst of receiving from the Big Game Company I dragged my ass to San Jose to interview with yesterday after getting up at 5 in the morning to do a lit drop for Just Cause, I'm about to lose my motherfucking mind and run wild through the streets with a goddamn tire iron.

In lieu of that...

See above. And I've seen glimmers of it elsewhere online. Frankly, I've been avoiding the internet today because I expected this kind of ridiculousness.

Re: eedjits.

I mentioned, briefly, some of my issues with the marriage movement several days ago. I'm sure that in coming days I'll be forced to expound further to get it all off my chest if not educate: http://fightingwords.livejournal.com/615102.html?thread=4963774#t4963774

Scuse me for spamming...

According to the office of the California Secretary of State, Prop 8 has not yet been called. They are still counting ballots... and we will not know the results until December 13th.

All media has announced a victory for Yes on 8.

Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.

Roughly 500,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.

Today’s California Constitutional law discovery:
Any amendment to the constitution, before being submitted to a vote, is required to be reviewed by the legislature. Guess what wasn’t?

The ACLU has filed an initial writ petition this morning to block proposition 8 from altering the Constitution.

"The California Constitution itself sets out two ways to alter the document that sets the most basic rules about how state government works. Through the initiative process, voters can make relatively small changes to the constitution. But any measure that would change the underlying principles of the constitution must first be approved by the legislature before being submitted to the voters. That didn't happen with Proposition 8, and that's why it's invalid."

It's not over yet.

Feel free, of course, to wipe this. I just didn't want you to wait to know this.

Re: Scuse me for spamming...

I would really hope this is true. It seems to me that a simple majority should not be the requirement for amending our fucking constitution.

Fuck that shit.
I'm so sick of all this turning on each other people do after votes don't go the way they want.

They suck, and you worked your ass off.

Am I the only gay person who doesn't care that much about prop 8? It's upsetting to know that Californians like chickens better than queers, but we need a supreme court ruling on this issue and we're going to have it in the next few years so I'm not tripping. Also I'm thanking baby Jesus that 4 and 6 went down.

So by this logic, the Mormon Church is run by the Obama campaign. Color me surprised.

Also, exit polling can bite me. I'd like to see specific numbers, sample sizes and methodology and then - it can bite me. It was a bullshit argument in 2004, both for the values voters and stolen election theories, and it's bull now.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

What I love is the part where after going on and on about how Prop 8 wouldn't have passed if all those gay-hating black people had stayed home, the poster immediately then says that there weren't enough black votes to swing it either way anyway. Uh. SO WHY DO YOU BRING IT UP, YOU RACIST PIGFUCKING ASSHOLE.

Also: hamster! piano!

Yeah, Judy Wieder just threw herself a pity party over on HuffPo and gave me another reason to want to give a big "Fuck You!" to white liberals in California.

I couldn't even finish reading that garbage, let alone reply to it. But it's okay for her to spout her racist diatribe because, hey, she edited Right On! magazine and she marched in the '60s.

I get so disgusted by these people [white liberals] that I fear I may choke on my own rage someday and kill over.

What we can learn from this:
According to these folks, there are not gay black people in California. I'm gonna have to make some sad phone calls informing some people I know that they are not, in fact, gay (as they've always believed), since they're black & that's apparently impossible. Well, they should've known when their hands inexplicably filled in the "yes" next to prop 8.

By the way, that hamster/piano song? SO stuck in my head now. ARRRRGGHH!! Get it out, get it out!!!!!!

Yeah? I'm definitely interested. Will you send me an email? lauren AT laurenwheeler DOT com.
