The fired-up Hopis, Kiowas and other tribal members spent more than four hours lecturing the handful of white, college-class Burners about cultural sensitivity until some of them simply broke down crying.
Omg, I would have loved to see this.

My head hurt from reading that thread.
The only reason I bothered replying is because it's happy hour in my office, and two drinks in, fighting with stupid people online seemed like a good idea.
Oh lord, I read the comments. Why did I read the comments? I KNOW that one of the first rules of the internets is to NEVER READ THE COMMENTS. Especially about stuff like this.
I also would have LOVED to see the various tribal members going OFF on folks.
DON'T READ THE COMMENTS.
I've been very disciplined about avoiding them. The only stupid I've encountered thus far has been on someone else's journal and offline.
i love that story, but it's too awesome for me not to be convinced that it's not an april fool's prank. unfortunately, i haven't had the time to dig through any of the referenced links... is it really legit?
There is a website for the group and for the party... I didn't dig any further into Google, but I thought it was a joke, too.
For some reason I thought the event itself was an April fool's thing, so I got really confused by the commentary for a bit. And then... wow.
Nope. We don't need April Fool's Day for people to be this stupid. This is your run-of-the-mill, idiotic Bay Area, woo-woo new age, culturally appropriative Burning Man people.
Thanks for posting this!!! I read it and plan on sharing it with my friends.
It's one of those very rare moments when the good guys won. Sort of.
The fact that the good guys had to do this--meaning people who have better things to do than spend a week-plus chasing down insulting hippies and telling them about themselves--means the victory is rather hollow, especially when this will happen again.
A couple years ago, it was some dimwit burner who wanted to stage a KKK lynching in the middle of the playa as "performance art."
fyi the term "Native Canadian" doesn't exist: it's First Nations, Métis and Inuit, or to speak broadly, aboriginal people who live in Canada.
oh goddamnit. i read about this on another forum i frequent, and the amount of telling people that not all "burners" are this retarded made my head hurt. thanks guys for making us all look like twits!
You know, this kind of thing is just one of the many reasons I'll never go to Burning Man again.
It's time for a PRIMAL SCREAM!!!!!!
Dammit, that's one I missed on my bingo card.
I have a line on a first-hand story from the front lines of this one. I can't wait to hear it.
i fucking loathe burning man and what rave culture, in general, has turned to in the u.s. in the past decade or so.
(not that this sort of bullshit didn't exist before the mid 90s, it's just so much more prevalent, now. and this comment took way too long to write because a rat kept trying to type along with me.)
I used to go to raves, and I don't think I ever saw this much stupid on the east coast. But then people out there are a lot less woo-woo than people here.
As for BM, I went once. Never again.
It's far too early in my day for the whiskey sour that this would seem to call for.
Sorry. Next time I'll post about the idiots when it's a more appropriate time for drinking. Like lunch.
The entire Bay Area sometimes makes me *facepalm*.
