Best Burlesque Revue: Hubba Hubba Revue
Pasties, booze, and pretty girls (and bois) thumbing their noses at propriety? Sounds like a party to us. For more than three years, the Hubba Hubba Revue has been upstaging more coquettish burlesque acts with a tasty goulash of live bands, classic striptease, vaudeville high-jinks, and Weimar era–esque cabaret acts in its ongoing monthly shows at the DNA Lounge. The founders, Creepshow Peepshow entertainer Kingfish and neo-burlesque headliner Eddie Dane, ply their audiences with a healthy dose of vulgar humor and attention to detail (coordinated go-go dancers? Be still, our hearts!), with just a tad of peek-a-boo charm. Audiences are encouraged to get dressed up and join the spectacle-makers. There's also a theme to ring in each month, from the topical (atom bombs) to the irreverent (Catholic schoolgirl cheerleaders). It's great raucous fun worthy of the Barbary Coast.
Say it with me now: HOORAY!
