The richest girl in town.
Condescending white atheists using black churches as targets (or ammunition) in their ongoing culture wars. Really. Shut the fuck up already.|
And as I said before:
Something I've learned is that if I want religious people to respect my absence of faith, I should respect their abundance of it. This doesn't mean I can't be critical of religion's many flaws (flaws that are not, by the way, exclusive to religion but manifest in most any dogma or organization), but insulting people simply because they are religious is foolhardy. It alienates and dehumanizes them and makes me look mean and small-minded.
So very much in agreement with you.
If I could climb through my monitor, I would.

Yes. This. Thank you.
I'm just going to start biting people.

He'd been on my flist for years, and I've checked him on shit from time to time before, but this has apparently just been the week he decided I didn't need to read him anymore.
Also, I'm going to register thesnarktank.com.
Dammit. Someone beat me to it and then did NOTHING with the domain. I hate them.
we will find a snark to call our own...
Strange how they target a group with comparatively little power over influencing things like policy, education, medicine, etc. that would make sense to want faith not influencing.
But hey, white atheists - the same rational people who brought us phrenology, non-consented medical experimentation, forced sterilization etc. - paving the rational road to a better future!

DING DING DING.
But apparently, the internet said that mean anti-gay marriage people gave someone in this church no one's ever heard of a medal or something, so they're baaaaaad people JUST LIKE Westboro Baptist Church.
Yep! Also, not only do they hate your white gay middle-class marriage, but those poor black Christians are also oppressing those poor put-upon atheists who are so oppressed by their sheer existence.
I don't know. I'm so irritated I can no longer even pretend to be arguing in good faith. No pun intended.

A lot of atheists get really upset when I point out that they're using magical thinking. If you ascribe no power to prayer or religious deed, then if the people aren't making policy decisions or otherwise impacting your life, there really shouldn't be any problem.
My greatest disappointment with many atheists is mistaking the human tendency to rationalize personal greed, bias, etc. through a belief system for the belief system itself.
Given that so few seem acquainted with the many well-documented ways science has been hijacked, misused, or used as a rationalizing excuse to perform the same fucked up deeds they ascribe to religion (oppression, genocide, kyriarchy), I kinda have to wonder what kind of champions of "proveable facts" can't be bothered to read even accepted mainstream history.
When they run around waving the words, "science" and "rationality" like holy symbols to take an identity of rightness, without, you know, actually researching the evidence, it's really inte5resting I'm the one accused of confusing atheism for a "religion".
